Welcome to Empowerment Monday! It is my goal to share pearls of wisdom with you every Monday to help jump start your week and honestly at times that can become a challenge for me. Especially with everything I have on my plate but I’m sure you understand how that can be at times but nonetheless let’s dive right in!
As you know, the book I am currently reading for personal development is Happy Women Live Better by Valorie Burton and I am absolutely loving it! Since our last talk I am now on trigger #4: Financial Savvy.
One of the things I love the most about this trigger is how Valorie reminds us that as believers we must understand that money is not evil but it is the love of money that is evil. Truth is, as CHRISTians we need money to not only live from day to day but to also advance the Kingdom of God. I don’t believe the poorer we are, the closer we are to Christ.
The Bible I read tells me, the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1) and it also goes on to tell us in Deuteronomy 8:18, “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth…” You see, we as the church have this thing all wrong about money, wealth and financial freedom. I believe now is the time for us as the church to become better stewards over what the Lord has already blessed us with so He can make us ruler over many more as He promises in His word.
Matthew 25:21 tells us that when we are faithful over a few things, the Lord will make us ruler over many things! What does that mean? If God can trust you to tithe off of $100, then he may send $1,000. If he can trust you with a thousand then I believe He will eventually bless you with $1,000,000.
Whoo! Just reading that number as I type this message to you made my baby leap! Perhaps I’m Mary and you are Elizabeth (Luke 1:41) and it is time for your baby to leap! I pray that as you read these words you begin to rejoice and get excited about your future and making money to create a better life for you and your children. Know that it’s perfectly okay for you to up-level your life and become a millionaire!
Before we get out of here I want to share 4 of the 8 ways money can trigger your happiness that Valorie mentions in her book. They are:
1. Live Below Your Means: Here Valorie shares the importance of living on less than 75% of your income.
2.Be Meek: Valorie says spend less than you are capable of spending. She says, “Trust me, it’ll make you happier!”
3. Give Some Away: Valorie says, giving not receiving is the way to happiness! She mentions here the importance of tithing and also blessing others.
4. Buy Experiences, Not Things: Valorie says it is past time for you to create an experience for yourself by (1) trying something new (2) eating a nice meal at your favorite restaurant with a great friend (3) Head to the beach or hit the slopes! (4) Buy a nice piece of art that you absolutely love and hang it up on your wall!
I really love how Valorie shares in point 4 because so often we run out and buy the latest Michael Kors bag or red bottoms which all depreciates after we purchase it. But your experience in the islands or taking your kids skiing will forever be a memory within your mind that you will always cherish.
As you know, Valorie Burton is one of my favorite authors therefore to learn the other 4 triggers she mentions in her book order your copy via Amazon.com or directly at http://www.valorieburton.com. I absolutely love her and I’m telling you this book is blessing my life for I am a woman who once wrestled with depression or with the experience of abnormal ph levels my moods were once up and down. Therefore, learning my happy triggers was a great place for me to begin to snatch back my life, my joy as well as my peace!
It’s funny that as people we can identify rather quickly what makes us tick but knowing what makes you happy is more important to living the abundant life Christ died for us to have!
