The Power of Hitting Rock Bottom

IMG_2392 (2)

I never thought I would be living the current life I live. Four years ago I worked in Corporate America, unhappy with my life and was barely making ends meet. Two years prior to that my daughter and I experienced homelessness and had to go and live with a complete stranger while I took two months to get my stuff together.

It took me hitting rock bottom to make a decision to never allow myself or my daughter to get this low ever again! That was 6 years ago and since then I have transitioned off my 9 to 5 which within 6 months of leaving I tripled my income by simply pursuing my passion: talking. LOL

I have always been the type to never meet a stranger and could spark up a conversation with a dog if he could talk back!

(Pictured with Celebrity Stylist J. Bolin in PA where we both were speakers for an event. I never thought I’d be on a platform with celebrities, let alone on a platform PERIOD!)

Helping others has always been a passion of mine as well. So I decided to put the two together and began helping women solve problems that was hindering their success in life. I later learned this was called coaching so I went, got certified and began to be compensated for my services.

Services? Products? Speaking platform? ME? Absolutely NOT! I never saw this in my future but I am so glad the plan of God trumps our plan any day!

Here’s how I learned to make my rock bottom experience work for me (and you can too):

  1. I identified HOW I got there to ensure I never ended up in this place again.
  2. I got serious about what I wanted because homelessness and unable to pay my bills definitely wasn’t it.
  3. I did some deep soul searching and identified bad habits I needed to break and developed a plan to not only break them but also what I needed to replace them with.

Perhaps you are experiencing your rock bottom right now. I encourage you to take a moment and evaluate where you are, how you got here, where you desire to be and what it will take for you to get there.

Doing the above is a self-coaching technique I use on myself anytime I feel stuck and need a push. I no longer seek outside sources to motivate me but I’ve learned to empower me to be great! You too can be the same!

Down is not your destiny therefore, get up and make this experience work for you!

I’d love to coach you to success! Click here to invest in a 1-on-1 coaching session with me today:!

Why You Can’t Give Up Now

Never allow what you’re going through to deter you from what God told you to do. One way that I remain encouraged is by studying the Word of God. If I listened to what others have said about me or allowed my mistakes to define me I would remain stuck and in bondage.

However, I choose to gain strength through my relationship with Christ and allow His word to reveal itself in my life. I encourage you to do the same. I know life happens and it gets tough but you are a lot tougher than you realize.

Where you are is not where you will always be and you must believe that and accept it as your truth. God has great plans for your life but you have to make a decision to trust and believe in Him and allow Him to direct your path.

For years I allowed my pain to lead me; but no more! I am now driven by the love of God and I trust His thoughts toward me. I encourage you to do the same.

You can not remain stuck where you are, too many are relying on your freedom to experience their’s God uses people and I encourage you to let Him use you to help someone else!

Why Healing is Essential to Your G.R.O.W.T.H.

In the world we live in today we all have encountered hurt and pain as well as experienced betrayal and disappointment. However, the key to living a successful life full of healing, wholeness and prosperity is learning to release and let go!

Number one, we must learn to release people who have hurt or disappointed us all while not forgetting to release ourselves in the process. To release someone can also be viewed as forgiving them and releasing what they did to you. Too many are bound today by people who are either a.) no longer among the living or b.) have moved on with their lives. One of the greatest tragedies is to allow the issues of life to put you on pause and keep you from living the purpose filled life you were predestined to live.

We must also learn to love ourselves while we are in the process of becoming who we were originally created to be. Refuse to allow your current dilemmas, setbacks or addictions to cause you to love yourself even less. Know that God chose you before the foundation of this world and He never expected you to be fully qualified for He has that portion covered.

Remember this: God doesn’t call the qualified but He qualifies the called!

Number two, we must learn to let go of the people who hurt us. This includes family members and friends as well as teachers, coworkers, church family; etc. Whatever they did is not worth holding on to and by harboring the offense or un-forgiveness you will end up with a sick soul.

I want to encourage you through this acronym of G.R.O.W.T.H:

G- rab ahold of God’s vision for your life. Vision comes from God not man. No  matter how many prophetic lines you stand in, or $100 lines you are manipulated into, vision can not be bought, but only birthed through prayer and communion with God.

R- come into the REALIZATION that you are enough and God chose you! Release feelings of unworthiness knowing that you are  joint heir of Christ and you are forgiven and you are worthy of being the child of THE KING!

O-pen your heart and let God and people in. Trust God to protect you from perpetrators. Sure, guard your heart but do not gate it. When we gate our hearts nothing can come in and nothing can go out. Life is all about relationships. Aren’t you tired of appearing connected when you really are disconnected? Relationships and friendships take work but God is all about them both. Refuse to allow the pain of your past to cause you to trust again. Not everyone is out to hurt you.

W-in others over with love! We must get back to sharing the love of God on a consistent basis. We don’t have to beat people over the head with our Bibles but we love them back to Christ. It is by loving kindness that we are drawn unto Him.

T- ell the devil NO! When he wants you to use your pain as an excuse to disconnect and become isolated; tell him NO! It’s a set up and a trap to get you alone so he can attack you! Solitude is when you are in a place with God but isolation is when you are all alone. Choose to enter a place of solitude but be careful not to shut down and shut others out due to pride or fear of being hurt because that enables the adversary to have an upper hand on you. For where two or more are gathered in the name of Jesus, He shall be in the midst! We are not designed to make it in this world alone. We were created to need one another!

H- elp and build- Life is all about helping others along this journey called life. Extend grace to others that was once extended to you. This is how Women of Standard was birthed out of my desire to be encouraged and in helping others God was helping me. It was in operating in what I now know was purpose that caused my healing process to begin. Choose to help others and build them up where you may even have been torn down.

Know that healing is essential for G.R.O.W.T.H.!

Setback for a Comeback!

On yesterday millions tuned in worldwide to watch the Superbowl where the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcon were fighting for the crown! Up until the third quarter it appeared the Atlanta Falcons were going to take home the big win. Never in NFL history had a team at that much of an upper hand on its opponent and not taken home a trophy.

The Atlanta Falcons kicked off the game literally blazing trails as they scored one touch down after another. Upon arriving to the third quarter the score was 28 to 3! However, I’m sure Atlanta fans were screaming and thought for sure this was their year to finally bring one home.

But then something happened. New England Team member, Tom Brady began to come in and literally take over the game! It was as if he had waited for this moment and was not moved by the scoreboard for he had assured his time that tonight was their night. New England showed up with a new energy that had not been witnessed until now.

Little did we know the Atlanta Falcons would not score again. The game ended up tied and went into overtime. With Falcons’ fans sitting on the edge of their seats the Patriots were all over the field. They were hitting interceptions and touch downs right and left. Now I am no true football fan however, I was watching the entire game last night with someone who is and I was tuned in as I watched this championship team being setback for what at the time seemed to be a takeover. But little did we know they were simply set back for a comeback!

History was made on last night for no team has ever been that low and recovered. New England Patriots took the trophy home with a win of 34-28. It was the highlight of their life and many of the team mates showed extreme emotion as reporters flocked to them and they all hugged and jumped around to celebrate their victory.

Why am I sharing this? You may appear to be down for the count. You may appear to have lost. Your opponent may appear to have won. But a second wind is being imparted into you now and I dare you to receive it! Open up your heart and mind and release the spirit of fear, doubt, unbelief and defeat and in exchange receive confidence, faith, assurance and victory!

You have what it takes to thrive in the midst of what is going on currently in America or better yet what may be taking place right now in your marriage, on your job or even with your children. You were simply setback for a comeback!

Now dust yourself off and walk with your head held high as the champion you are!!!!

As your Breakthrough Coach I am here to build, strengthen and encourage you from the pulpit to the marketplace on how to operate authentically and un-apologetically in your divine calling with a spirit of excellence.

This week I want to share four strategies on how to get unstuck NOW!

1. You must experience a change of mind.
The #1 reason individuals are held back is due to fear. Fear of failing or fear of success. But either way you must embrace fear and allow it to work for you rather than against you. Bishop T. D. Jakes said this once, “If your dreams don’t scare you then you need to go back to sleep!” In order to experience a change of mind you must say NO! to fear, slothfulness, anxiety, doubt and small minded thinking!

2. Acknowledge where you are.
In doing so you must self-access. Evaluate where you are and where you desire to be. National Evangelist, Paula White says, “You can not conquer what you are unwilling to confront, and you can not confront what you are unwilling to identify.”
Remember: NOTHING changes if NOTHING changes.

3. Identify where you want to go.
Before you can move forward you must
a. Experience a change of mind
b. Acknowledge where you want to go
c. Identify where you want to go.

ACTIVITY: I want you to get out a sheet of paper and draw a straight line down the middle. To the left I want you to write, “Where I Want to Go” and to the right insert, “What It Will Take to Get There.”

Now this activity is to help you identify what you want out of life such as: Become debt free, write a book, launch a business, start a movement, get a degree; etc. Next, acknowledge what it will take to get there: Example, save money, hire a coach, develop a business plan, identify your purpose, apply for college;etc.

4. Determine what it takes for you to get there. In completing the above activity you have not only identified what you want out of life and what you want to accomplish but you have also identified what it takes to get there.

You also must be willing to:

a. Sacrifice: #1 thing you can sacrifice is your TIME. If you are currently working a 9 to 5 it is essential that you work on your personal vision for a minimum of 30- 60 minutes per day. This will help you implement discipline, accomplish your goals and lead you to living a fulfilled, purpose driven life.

You also must be willing to sacrifice your money. Understand this: If you are currently working a 9 to 5 that you do not thoroughly enjoy, instead of growing frustrated change your perception and understand that your current job is an investor of your business. Because of this job you are able to hire a web developer to design your website which creates a “hub” for your tribe to opt into and remain connected to you. No longer can you rely on social media to keep you connected to your followers. Because what if one day Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook) or Kayvon Beykpour (Co-Founder of Periscope) decided to shut down both of those sites? What would you do? How would you remain in touch with your “fan base?”

b. Be committed: No longer are you to just date the vision but you must consummate it and marry it. Just as you make love to your spouse you make love to your vision as you work on it daily. Now, if you are single disregard this analogy (ha-ha!) and think of long term friendships and how they take time to nurture and develop. The same applies to your vision. You will not become a mogul, millionaire or even a social media mavon without sacrificing your time (and money) being committed and

c. Remain steadfast: Refuse to waver in your decision to pursue your dreams, goals and vision. Refuse to allow doubters to contaminate your space or cause you to think small or succumb to their poverty stricken mentality. The most powerful thing you can ever change is your MIND!

I pray you have a blessed week and remember you do NOT have to remain where you are for today is your day to say NO! to mediocrity and YES! to extraordinary living!

P.S. I am now offering Trailblazer Mentoring. See the flyer below for details and if interested reply to this email. Please note: There is a financial investment for mentorship and coaching programs.

How to Get Out of Your Own Way

I can, I shall, I must! I can, I shall, I must! I can I shall I must! These are the words I constantly remind myself of daily (from one of my favorite motivational coaches: Dr. Eric Thomas) as it relates to fulfilling my life purpose. In the world we live in today we are faced daily with all kinds of adversity, opposition and trials that come to tempt us to waver in our faith, give up on our dreams and doubt the God of the universe.

Every day we are faced with fears of success, fear of failing, worrying how we are going to fund our vision. We ask questions like, “Am I qualified?” “Where am I going to get the money?” “Am I good enough?” “Can this really happen for my life?”

The answer to your question is Yes! You are more qualified than you realize. Your past and previous pain, mistakes and failures have all been washed away by the blood of Jesus and you no longer have to hold on to yesterday’s pain and misery. But you can embrace the love of God and joy that is available to you today.

To answer the second question (Where am I going to get the money from?) remember this: in providing you with vision, God will always make provision! He will never place dreams, goals and desires on the inside of you and then not provide you with the necessary resources to help bring the vision into complete manifestation. God simply does not work that way. But here’s why we fall into a rut: (1) We try to make it happen on our own. (2) We refuse to submit to HIS way of doing things (3) We don’t believe.

The problem with trying to make it happen on our own is in doing so we leave God out. He will not share His glory with anyone. He will not share His crown, He will not allow anyone else to get the credit for the greatness that is to come forth from your life. Instead of being self-reliant, we must be God-reliant.

In being God-reliant that means we do not stress out over things we have no control over but we trust God to do what He says and to fulfill His purpose for our lives. We are reminded in Matthew 6:34 not to give any thought about tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself. What does that mean? It means live for today. Be fully present in the moment today. Trust God for your needs to be met today. By spending more time in His word you will become equipped, empowered and strengthened to never give up on your dreams as well as learning what the Word of God says concerning your life. There is absolutely no substitute for God’s word!woman-studying

Next, when we refuse to submit to God’s way of doing things we complicate our own process of overcoming and we welcome even greater adversities that could have been avoided if we would simply trust God, obey Him and take His word as commands rather than suggestions.

Then finally, the question is, ‘Do we really believe that God can perform those things we hold close to our heart?’ Do you really believe God will save your loved ones? Do you really believe God can heal you or someone you love of cancer? Do you really believe God can give you favor with your boss? Do you really believe God can do just what He says as it relates to the dreams and visions you hold dear to your heart? Testing comes for all of us but the one thing we have to remember and that is we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and all things are possible (Matthew 19:26) If we will simply choose to release crazy faith and trust the God of the Bible.  For without faith it is impossible to please the Lord (Hebrews 11:6.)

So the next time you are tempted to doubt God or when you find yourself in a storm that appears to be never ending be reminded that storms come to pass and after every storm there is a rainbow. Just as God made covenant with Noah to never again bring a flood upon the earth (Genesis 9:15-17) , He has also made covenant with you to never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Today is the day i want you to declare aloud, “I am good enough!” “I do have what it takes!” “My dreams will become a reality!” Your words have creative power for in the beginning Christ created and formed the world we now live in by the words He spoke (Hebrews 11:3.) Therefore, you too can declare a thing to be so and it shall manifest for you if you will refuse to doubt and commit to placing your trust totally in God.  download

It is past time for you to declare victory over your life! Know that where you are is not your final destination and you have NOT missed your moment! God knows how old you are, your current financial situation, your desire for a mate….God knows! Allow the fact that God knows to be your comfort. He vows to finish the great work He has started within you (Philippians 1:6.)

I charge you to release fear and allow your faith to take over! Take God at His word and trust Him to bring forth every desire of your heart in HIS divine timing (this is key.) Refuse to grow weary in well doing (Galatians 6:9) for if God said it, He is going to perform it. Remain in a posture of thanksgiving, prayer and praise.

More Triggers to Getting Happy

Welcome to Empowerment Monday! It is my goal to share pearls of wisdom with you every Monday to help jump start your week and honestly at times that can become a challenge for me. Especially with everything I have on my plate but I’m sure you understand how that can be at times but nonetheless let’s dive right in!

As you know, the book I am currently reading for personal development is Happy Women Live Better by Valorie Burton and I am absolutely loving it! Since our last talk I am now on trigger #4: Financial Savvy.

One of the things I love the most about this trigger is how Valorie reminds us that as believers we must understand that money is not evil but it is the love of money that is evil. Truth is, as CHRISTians we need money to not only live from day to day but to also advance the Kingdom of God. I don’t believe the poorer we are, the closer we are to Christ.

The Bible I read tells me, the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1) and it also goes on to tell us in Deuteronomy 8:18, “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth…”  You see, we as the church have this thing all wrong about money, wealth and financial freedom. I believe now is the time for us as the church to become better stewards over what the Lord has already blessed us with so He can make us ruler over many more as He promises in His word.

Matthew 25:21 tells us that when we are faithful over a few things, the Lord will make us ruler over many things! What does that mean? If God can trust you to tithe off of $100, then he may send $1,000. If he can trust you with a thousand then I believe He will eventually bless you with $1,000,000.

Whoo! Just reading that number as I type this message to you  made my baby leap! Perhaps I’m Mary and you are Elizabeth (Luke 1:41) and it is time for your baby to leap! I pray that as you read these words you begin to rejoice and get excited about your future and making money to create a better life for you and your children. Know that it’s perfectly okay for you to up-level your life and become a millionaire!

Before we get out of here I want to share 4 of the 8 ways money can trigger your happiness that Valorie mentions in her book. They are:

1. Live Below Your Means: Here Valorie shares the importance of living on less than 75% of your income.

2.Be Meek: Valorie says spend less than you are capable of spending. She says, “Trust me, it’ll make you happier!”

3. Give Some Away: Valorie says, giving not receiving is the way to happiness! She mentions here the importance of tithing and also blessing others.

4. Buy Experiences, Not Things: Valorie says it is past time for you to create an experience for yourself by (1) trying something new (2) eating a nice meal at your favorite restaurant with a great friend (3) Head to the beach or hit the slopes! (4) Buy a nice piece of art that you absolutely love and hang it up on your wall!

I really love how Valorie shares in point 4 because so often we run out and buy the latest Michael Kors bag or red bottoms which all depreciates after we purchase it. But your experience in the islands or taking your kids skiing will forever be a memory within your mind that you will always cherish.

As you know, Valorie Burton is one of my favorite authors therefore to learn the other 4 triggers she mentions in her book order your copy via or directly at I absolutely love her and I’m telling you this book is blessing my life for I am a woman who once wrestled with depression or with the experience of abnormal ph levels my moods were once up and down. Therefore, learning my happy triggers was a great place for me to begin to snatch back my life, my joy as well as my peace!

It’s funny that as people we can identify rather quickly what makes us tick but knowing what makes you happy is more important to living the abundant life Christ died for us to have!

Did You Know You Were a Trailblazer?

SuccessWomanSuit620480When you think of the word “trailblazer” what comes to mind? I’m sure you thought of the word “innovator”, “pioneer” , “trendsetter” or even “ground breaker” which all make up the sum total of what a trailblazer is. Do you know that now is the time for you to come forward with your ideas, dreams and visions.

How would you like to dream with your eyes wide open rather than when you are sleeping? The only way to do this is to make your dreams a reality which is by getting laser focused on your overall vision and break them down into short and long term goals.

One thing I’ve noticed about women is we are great at nurturing the gifts, talents and abilities of others but when it comes to us doing our own thing we struggle, we suddenly can’t bring our own ideas into execution. Why is that?

Do you feel guilty for focusing on your God given assignment? Do you feel that others will talk about you if God begins to raise you up? Can I tell you that whether you step out on faith and begin to live life on purpose or not, people are going to talk!

I remember before I began writing books, coaching women or hosting events people talked about me negatively. Guess what? As I began to experience success in ministry and my business nothing changed. As a matter of fact, it was intensified!

Think about other successful people you know or perhaps even some whom you watch often on television. I want to use Nene Leakes as an example. Before becoming a hit star on Housewives of Atlanta, Nene was a stripper who admits to making several mistakes throughout life including her very public marital relationship with Greg. Folks talked about her before she blew up on television and they are still talking now that she is living the life of her dream! But guess what changed in the midst of the senseless chatter? The number of commas and zeros in Nene’s check!

What’s my point? It’s time for you to move forward NOW! There will never be a perfect time. You  my friend will have to make time! We hear often that we all have the same  number of hours in a day as Beyonce’ and that is so true! But what we choose to do with our time is the difference.

Are you going to continue to watch people like Nene Leakes or even Beyonce’ live their dreams while you eat your popcorn and drink your soda pop making them rich because they get paid off of your views. OR are you going to get up and take action toward fulfilling your own dreams?

The Unexpected Guest: Will You Pass the Test?

It is my prayer that this email finds you in great strength, encouragement and an abundance of joy which will get you through another great week! Sure, I used the word “another” when last week was one interesting and challenging week for me. I was sick for the majority of last week with the chills, then sweats, headaches and more. Then I was faced with a spiritual challenge of a woman who entered into my office claiming to want to invite me to be a part of her event only to try to intimidate and break my spirit (which did NOT happen) and to top it off I was unable to travel to DC to attend Steve Harvey’s Act Like a Success Conference.

But even in the midst of the trials I faced on last week I still identify it as a great week. Here’s why: (1) Because I made it out! Hallelujah! (2) I learned that I am a lot stronger spiritually than I thought I was because although I was highly disrespected in my office I did not allow what the woman attempted to do to enter into my heart. But instead I was filled with the love of God and actually felt very sorry for her to the point that I began to minister to her. That’s right! Her planned attack turned into a ministry moment for her! I ended up with her in my office for over 2 hours and by the end of our meeting I (by the grace of God) had turned her nasty (defensive) attitude and judgmental spirit to one of her saying, “Carla, you are indeed the truth!” LOL I know it sounds comical but initially she flat out told me that she thought I was fake and that all the things I was doing on social media was one big fluff. When she said that I immediately burst out laughing and said, “Are you serious?” She sat there, “straight faced” and said, “Yes.” I then said, “Well darling, I am indeed real about what I do for the Lord so what you see is really what you get!”

I turned that sour moment into one of laughter and I began to find out this was her first event and I began to share wisdom with her concerning things she could do from a professional standpoint. I went as far as  sharing my resources and wisdom with her in which she was very receptive. (But who wouldn’t take free information right? HA!) As she sat in my office all I kept hearing was the scripture that reads, “By loving kindness have I drawn thee”. So obviously this sister had been hurt by women in ministry and was still carrying church hurt in which we dealt with some of it while she was here and I believe her perception of me may have been formed by the thoughts or opinions of others. But guess what? What other people think about you is none of your business!

When she left I flopped in my chair now feeling spiritually drained and said okay Lord that’s why you wouldn’t allow me to come out of prayer this morning when I wanted to. I laughed, got on the phone and shared the experience with my Mom, she praised Jesus that “Cece” (the old me) didn’t show up. We laughed; I hung up then went back to work as if nothing had ever happened.

vintage-exhausted-woman-photo(this is exactly how I felt after she left my office! Spiritually drained because there was some warfare going on in the spirit!)

WHAT’S MY POINT? In the midst of all we face in life it is up to us how we allow things to affect us. We may not be able to control what happens to us but we can control our response to it. We reside in society where everyone is “reacting” versus “responding”. Your reaction is what you do on impulse. But your response is what you do once you have carefully considered all facts and details.

Women and men who are wise know the importance of being slow to speak but quick to listen and slow to judge yet quick to forgive. This is the motto I live by and I admit it is not always easy. Sure, when that woman appeared in my office rude, uptight and with a judgmental spirit (which she admitted to), I instantly had to make a decision whether I was going to allow “Cece” to come out or  remain“Carla” the professional and woman of God who rules, reigns and dominates over the spiritual wickedness that had entered into my office on this particular day.

Which do you think I chose? Absolutely! I chose the latter because one thing I’ve learned in life is we can’t control what people say about us but we can control whether or not we add more fuel to the fire by giving them more to talk about. This is why I decided to go the extra mile with her because how many times has Christ gone the extra mile with us? How many times have we been stubborn or did things that offended God? So although her spirit was off I couldn’t allow her to “infect” me by causing me to act out of character.

Ok, I promise you this is not what this blog was supposed to be about lol I was coming to talk with you about the secret to success which I read in an article about Dr. Phil and how Oprah started out as his lawyer, and she then invited him on her show and he became well known across the world instantly due to that one platform. I guess I had to get some things out first (smile). How about I save that story for tomorrow! Join my email list by going to and you will receive the story directly to your email on tomorrow!

I like to share my experiences with those who are in my “tribe” (as Motivational Speaker, Lisa Nichols puts it) to expose you to my world and how I choose to handle things. Now, don’t be alarmed I had already warned the lady that I was going to write and talk about this experience because too many women “size up” other women and in doing so they miss out on great personal and/or professional relationships because upon meeting they entered in the wrong spirit and attitude. She laughed when I told her, but I assured her I was “dead serious”. HA!

So, what can you take away from this story:

– Begin each day in prayer, meditation & studying the Word of God

– Never allow someone else’s issue to become your issue.

– Do not take personal attacks personally.

– The love of God conquers all

– You were created to rule, reign and DOMINATE!

– Do not allow evil spirits to intimidate you

– The Word of God and even the love of God is your weapon

– Never react to situations but respond to them

As you go about your week know that you are indeed a force to be reckoned with! I believe the Holy Spirit wanted me to share this story with you to help strengthen you as well and to bring you into higher accountability. As Christians it is truly time for us to walk the talk and do so rather quietly. How we do what we do should speak the highest volumes without us ever having to open our mouth!

Be blessed, remain encouraged and allow no one to tell you who you are for that has already been established in Christ!

Are You a Wounded Warrior?

Not long ago we honored/remembered the innocent lives of nearly 3,000+ people which were lost on September 11, 2001 where terrorists attacked the Unites States. They hijacked four airplanes in mid-flight and flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon (the U.S. military headquarters) in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane then crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Officials believe that the terrorists on that plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U.S. Capitol.

Those who survived this attack were left severely wounded and this is where I gained to title: Wounded Warriors from. Just as in the natural we experience various attacks which can wear on my physical bodies, we can also undergo spiritual attacks which can weigh on us mentally and spiritually.

During my time of prayer the Lord showed me there were many wounded warriors among us today that never stepped foot in Iraq or never engaged in a physical war here on the earth but were engaging in spiritual warfare which took place in their mind, body and spirit.

God began to show me that we have a lot of people encouraging, ministering and empowering others who really need to be encouraged, ministered to and empowered themselves. So many of them have been not just hurt but wounded by people they once trusted, betrayed by those who walked the closest to them and denied by those who were supposed to have their back.

I began to intercede for these individuals being reminded of this feeling for I knew it all too well. You see, society teaches us that no matter what keep moving; keep pushing and keep moving forward in life! We hear this so much to the point that we never take time to treat our wounds. We never take time to acknowledge the hurt, the betrayal or even the events that almost took us out of here if not physically, then spiritually.

Many are doing great things in the body of Christ but often lack the true power of God because we are so busy trying to be Superman and Superwoman pushing ourselves into believing that we can do what only God can do. Sure, we shall do greater works! But we spend so much energy trying to get others to live right instead of ensuring our own foot doesn’t slip in the process. We are so quick to put our mouths on others only to forget that we were once where they are now.

WOUNDED WARRIORS. These are people who do great things in the name of Jesus but it’s in vain because it gets to a point where they begin to operate out of religion and a repeated cycle instead of being led by the Holy Spirit. I believe there comes a time when we literally may have to shut everything down and be honest with God and cry out to Him and tell him we are hurting, tell him we are in pain, tell him we are literally fighting for our lives and truth is we don’t want anyone to know because what will they think of us? What about all the encouraging words we have been sharing with others? Why is it not working for us? Why don’t we apply our own words to our current situation but instead we’d rather walk around like everything is okay. When on the inside we are broken, crying ourselves to sleep at night, crying out to God in the midnight hour or even worst taking pills to stay awake during the day and taking pills to get us through the night.

If you are suffering from any of the above I mentioned then you are indeed a wounded warrior in need of repair. Often times we are so accustomed to fighting that we can’t accept God’s word when He says vengeance belongs to Him according to Deuteronomy 32:35.

I want you to know that it is okay to be honest about how we feel. The Bible never tells us not to acknowledge our true feelings, it only tells us not to be led by them. Trust me, hurt people hurt people and if you are wounded and have yet to be healed you are hurting others in ways you may not even be aware of.

Here are a few ways you can overcome and transition from a wounded warrior to a healed warrior who is indeed a force to be reckoned with:

  1. Be honest about the pain you feel- Cast all of your cares upon the Lord, for He cares for you! (I Peter 5:7)
  2. Submit to Prayer & begin to pray for the people or individual who hurt you. Or perhaps you need to forgive yourself for something you have done. Know that God loves you and He’ll never leave and forsake you. He is one you can share your deepest secrets with and never have to worry about being exposed as long as you have a repentant and sincere heart. Remember God chastens those whom He loves and it is to convict you not condemn you (for condemnation is not of God- Romans 8:1)
  3.  Declare the Word of God over your situation- We are instructed to speak what God’s word says about us and not get stuck in what things appear to be in the natural. Be careful with this part because without proper balance you can end up living in a state of denial. Face your truth. Be honest about where you are. But also, know that God loves you too much for you to remain where you are. Cast down any thoughts that are not of God and that do not draw you closer to Him (II Corinthians 10:5) Remember you control your thoughts and anything the enemy offers you are merely suggestions which you can deny and say “NO!” to! Just because a thought crosses your mind does not mean you should go ahead and do it! No, talk back to the enemy and speak aloud what the Word of God says about your situation.

Now that you know how to get out of a wounded state to a healed state I want you to declare aloud:

“Yes, I was hurt, but I have acknowledged it and now I am healed!”

“Yes, I made some mistakes but I will not allow it to hinder me from transforming into who Christ created me to be!”

“I forgive every person who has ever hurt me!”

“I am whole, healed and free in Jesus!”

“I have laid aside every weight and I now carry unspeakable joy in my heart which is indeed my strength according to Nehemiah 8:10!”

“I am the righteousness of God and I am a true warrior but every now and then warriors have to take time to cater to their own wounds so they can go back out and fight the good fight of faith!”

“I no longer try to fight a spiritual battle in my flesh for the real war goes on in the spirit!”

My friend I am so proud of you and I want you to know that old things have passed away and behold all things have become new. Take time for you on today. It’s okay to take a break from social media, so shut down your emails, text messages and phone calls because the pressures of life can really drain us if we allow it. Go on a mini vacation even if you have to get a hotel for a night just to have a change of scenery. Take your bible and your Ipad with your favorite worship music and just steal away with Jesus. I promise you will leave His presence completely restored, healed and full of His love. Go in peace & know that I am always here to pray you through!

If this blog touched your heart and was truly for you please email me directly at Know that you are not alone. I too have been a wounded warrior. I was giving all I had to others so to the point I was left with nothing. No one could pick me up in the spirit and tell I was broken in the midst of my smiles, Facebook posts and while encouraging others. But guess what? God didn’t allow me to. He instructs us to work out our own soul salvation with fear and trembling and so what no one called or no one could tell I was hurting, God was there all along and He didn’t allow them to come to my rescue because guess what? Then I would develop an unconscious habit of depending on them instead of Him.  Be blessed and know that you are not alone and where you are you do not have to remain. The choice is yours!
